One night, I followed her and was shocked to see Teresa secretly tending to Maria and Luis’s garden—sprinkling salt, replanting damaged flowers, and carefully caring for the plants. She told me she wanted to protect their garden from whoever was ruining it because Maria had become like a sister to her, and she didn’t want them to leave. We set up security cameras and caught the real vandals neighbors who hoped to force Maria and Luis out so they could buy the house cheaply.

After the vandals were confronted and made to pay for the damage, Maria and Luis stayed. Teresa’s midnight visits stopped, but now she and Maria spend sunny afternoons gardening together, laughing and sharing stories. What started as suspicion ended up being a heartfelt act of friendship and care that saved more than just plants.
