At seven o’clock in the morning I woke up from the wild barking of my dog, who was trying in every way to wake me up, and I saw something scary

Something happened to me this morning that I will never forget. It was almost seven in the morning. The street was still quiet, morning silence, and I was enjoying a rare day off for myself.

Since yesterday I was literally squeezed out – I didn’t even have the strength for a regular morning walk with the dog. I slept like a log, and in my sleep everything was calm and ordinary. Suddenly I felt something heavy pressing on my chest.

In my sleep I opened my eyes – my dog was standing right in front of me. He leaned his paws on me and stared intently into my face. – Well, what do you want?

— I muttered and closed my eyes again, deciding that he was just hungry or wanted a walk. But he didn’t leave. On the contrary, he began to persistently stamp his paws, lick my cheek and whine quietly, as if calling.

I still didn’t understand why he was waking me up so persistently. When I ignored him, he suddenly barked right next to my ear, then jumped onto the bed and began to bark loudly, sharply, with some kind of anxious anguish. At that moment, I opened my eyes again… and noticed something strange

I opened my eyes… and smelled a strange, sharp smell.

I didn’t immediately understand what it was. But after a couple of seconds, my brain seemed to click: burning. And it was getting stronger.

I sat up abruptly, my heart pounding so hard that it echoed in my temples. I jumped out of bed, ran barefoot into the hallway – and froze. Thick gray smoke was coming from the hallway, already making its way into my room.

And in the living room, a fire was blazing – the flames were greedily devouring half the room, crackling and throwing sparks. The dog was standing nearby, barking at the fire, then looked at me again, as if urging me on: “Faster!”

I grabbed the phone, dialed the fire department with trembling fingers and, without wasting a second, ran out of the apartment with it. Only on the street, when we were already safe and I was trying to catch my breath, did it dawn on me: if it weren’t for him, I would have continued to sleep… and might simply not have woken up.

Later it turned out that in the evening I was ironing clothes and, being mortally tired, I forgot to turn off the iron. It remained lying on the clothes. That’s what caused the fire.

I didn’t remember anything. But my dog – he smelled the smoke before I did and did everything he could to wake me up. If it weren’t for him… I probably wouldn’t be telling this story now.
