But soon, I noticed odd behavior. Jenny would disappear at night and sleep until noon, leaving me to take care of the kids. One morning, while heading to her room to check on her, I overheard her on the phone.

What I heard shattered my trust: she was planning to leave town with someone new — without her children. She had even been coaching Mason and Lila on what to say so I wouldn’t suspect anything. Heartbroken, I confronted her.

Jenny didn’t deny it. I gave her a choice: get help and step up as a mother, or leave and let me protect the kids. That night, she quietly packed a bag and walked out without saying goodbye.

Mason and Lila didn’t fully understand, but they clung to me for comfort. Now, life is loud and messy, with toys scattered across the floor and bedtime stories every night. It’s not the life I planned, but those kids deserve stability and love — and I’m determined to give them both.
